GaN-on-Si Power Amplifiers Nitronex in conjunction with Prescient Wireless have designed a GaN-on-Si Broadband Doherty Power Amplifier for WiMAX applications. Based on Nitronex's existing NPT251015 power transistor, the design provides 6W linear output power from 2.5 to 2.7 GHz while achieving >35% efficiency, 10dB gain, and <2.0% EVM with digital pre-distortion. The inherent low output capacitance and high efficiency of GaN-on-Si are a natural fit for the Doherty architecture. Typical performance numbers were taken using a mobile WiMAX waveform defined as a single carrier OFDMA 64-QAM ¾ with a 10 MHz channel bandwidth. 6 watts of output power is achieved with a 9.5 dB PAR A 0.01% probability on the CCDF during the transmit portion of a 50% duty cycle TTD signal. The GaN-on-Si broadband Doherty power amplifier is suitable for carriers that require higher efficiency and broader bandwidth at the same time.

FerroxFoil EMI Absorber FerroxFoil is a flexible sheet filled with EMI absorbing material. It is effective against electromagnetic waves in a broad frequency spectrum. It can be wrapped easily around any shape, which makes it applicable in a variety of applications. The absorptive material is a distributed magnetic material, available in four grades: 5F1 for high frequency, 5R1 for high resistivity, 5T1 for metal shielding in HF RFID transponder applications, 5W1 for wideband suppression. Applications: wherever radiated EMI is present, either prevention of radiated EMI or protection against incoming EMI.

    Examples of use:
  • Top shield for fast digital ICs
  • Prevention of unwanted high frequency circuit resonances
  • Noise coupling reduction between circuits on different (stacked) PCBs
  • Noise coupling reduction between PCB circuits and an LCD display
  • SAR regulation for mobile phones
  • Noise absorption from PCB transmission lines and flat-cable connections
  • Noise absorption on steel casing insode to lower general radiation level
  • Enhanced reading distance of RFID tags in the proximity of metals

Lu173, Lu273, LU373 CMOS Camera Lumenera's new Lu173, Lu273 and Lu373 single board cameras are a cost-effective solution for applications requiring small form factor megapixel resolutions, fast frame rates, high dynamic range, and high sensitivity in uncontrolled lighting environments. An ultra-small sensor head measuring 2½ cm x 1½ cm, and slim processing board make these cameras an excellent fit for reduced space systems such as handhelds, unmanned vehicles and discrete surveillance cameras or in space constraint applications. A flex cable between the sensor head and processing board can be extended up to 10 cm, allowing the sensor head to be mounted at a variety of angles. Megapixel resolution provides for a wide field of view commonly found in cameras with a much larger factor, while a high-speed driver delivers up to 30 fps - suitable for fast-event image capture and quality control in high-throughput manufacturing environments.

Photon ModeScan Model 1780 The Photon ModeScan Model 1780 Beam Profiling System from Photon Inc. measures the M² beam propagation ratio and associated ISO 11146 parameters in real time. The ModeScan Model 1780 uses a patented technique with 10 reflective surfaces to form 10 simultaneous images of the beam onto a CCD detector array. It measures and updates M² and other beam parameters at a rate over 20 Hz, and it analyses continuous-wave, pulsed and single-shot lasers over the wavelength range of 250 - 1100nm. This compact and portable system measures 62 x 140 x 120 mm with an IEEE-1394 "FireWire" interface, and is designed to occupy a minimum of optical bench space. To demonstrate the speed of Photon's new real time measurement system, Photon continuously measured the M² parameter of a single laser over 1 million times in 11 hours. This is believed to be the most times any laser M² parameter has ever been measured. As with all Photon products, the ModeScan Model 1780 generates NIST traceable measurements.

Skyworks GaAs Flip Chip Schottky Diodes Skyworks have released a series of GaAs Schottky Barrier Flip Chip Diodes, which produces excellent frequency performance up to millimeter wave range in a mechanically robust, small form factor. The series is comprised of a single junction device, DMK2790-000, and an anti-parallel pair, DMK2308-000. These products offer very low series resistance and capacitance, typically available only in beam lead devices, but without the fragility of beam leads. The DMK2790-000 anti-parallel pair is well suited for use in sub-harmonically pumped mixers or in limiting circuits. These diodes are designed to be mounted on hard or soft substrate printed circuit boards with conductive epoxy or solder. Typical applications include mixers or detectors in point-to-point millimetre wave radios, collision avoidance automotive radars, adaptive cruise control radar systems etc.

Ferroxcube Ferroxtag Ferroxtag is a new family of Radio Frequency IDentification (RFID) Tags with a high magnetic permeability antenna core from Ferroxcube. RFID is a generic term for technologies that use radio waves to identify items. Ferroxtag key feature is the antenna: instead of using a simple air coil, the magnetic field is attracted by a high permeability ferrite that drives the field through the antenna. The antenna is parallel to the item, instead of perpendicular, making the tag almost independent of the item material. No need to worry about electromagnetic reflections on metals. Ferroxtag is suit bale for identifying high value products such as laptops, computers, medical equipment and also industrial boxes, pallets, beer kegs and gas cylinders.

Ferroxtags are available in two different encapsulation, both robust and easy to mount:

Ferroxtag (FXT) with Bar Code: a high frequency (13.56 MHz) RFID tag with the ID number bar code printed on the encapsulation. This allows fast automatic reading through RFID technology, keeping the possibility to read it with a standard bar code reader. RFID and optical identification complement each other in this Ferroxtag with Bar Code. The encapsulation protects the device and eases the mounting of items by means of the adhesive sticker supplied in the back (more information).

Ferroxtag on Metal Screw Box: a high frequency (13.56 MHz) RFID tag optimised for identification of metallic items. It can be screwed to the item and/or stuck on it with the bottom side adhesive tape. The overall dimension of the Ferroxtag on Metal Screw Box including the holes for screw is 25 mm x 12.5 mm x 5mm (more information).
